I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2019…
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with this watermelon shaped sorbet at a restaurant chain called Friendly’s. I can’t imagine it was very food, but it sure was fun. It was in the shape of a watermelon slice – the base was sorbet, the seeds were chocolate chips, and the rind was lime sorbet. Well, the masters at Dominique Ansel would have made my childhood head explode. Their take on this uses an actual watermelon slice carved open and stuffed with housemade watermelon ice cream. Now you can take a bite and eat the ice cream with the actual fruit to see how accurate it all tastes. And it’s still tons of fun. Price: $10
