BRIAN’S 100 BEST ’19: KALE LAING at TSISMIS

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2019…

Traditionally, laing is a Filipino dish made of shredded taro leaves. Tsismis, a new and very exciting Filipino gastropub does not seem to do things traditionally. Instead of taro, they use the very popular ingredient kale – shredded and cooked down with coconut milk and shrimp paste. Funky, spicy, and creamy, this is the best version of creamed spinach your Southern grandparents never dreamed up. Price: $12
