BRIAN’S 100 BEST ’19: SICILIAN at F&F PIZZERIA

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2019…

No NYC pizzeria this year got more hype and praise than the new slice joint from the Frankies (of Frankies 457 Spuntino and formerly Prime Meats). I visited twice and was hot and cold (see a full pizza review here), but I have to admit that the Sicilian slice was pretty legendary, Almost more focaccia than pizza, this big square of bread was crisp and chewy and had rich layers of tang where there didn’t appear to be any cheese (there was). The tomato sauce was baked into the slice and gave off even more tang and sweet acidity. I could have skipped all the others I tried and ordered two of these. Price: $6
