Alphabet City was never the neighborhood for fine dining, but times have changed. Tuome has been quietly turning out refined, gourmet dishes for five years now. It has been on my list since day one but I only got to try it out this year. The standout was a decadent dish of al dente noodles topped with sweet snow crab meat, seasonal squash and luxurious dashi butter. It’s a hearty dish that combines Italian, Asian, and American flavors. And it’s worth a special night out – in Alphabet City. Price: $34
