DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Triple-Chocolate Brownie at BUTTER & SCOTCH

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

SADLY, BUTTER & SCOTCH IS NOW CLOSED.

Butter & Scotch is a very unique place. I can think of a few dessert establishments that make boozy treats and some bars that shake up sweet cocktails. And even one bar whose owner also runs a boozy cupcake business. But since Sweet Revenge closed in the West Village, Butter & Scotch is the only place I can think of that has its foot fully on both sides.

This is a full-on neighborhood bar where you can also walk out with a cookie or brownie. The worlds sometimes collide in things like boozy milkshakes or bourbon pecan pie. But mostly they specialize in desserts and in cocktails and not necessarily together.

I’m here to talk about one of the desserts. On my way back to Manhattan, I stopped by for a quick something sweet. I was tempted by one of the boozy floats but then I could not have taken my sweet treat for the road (open container laws even apply to those topped with ice cream) and it also might have been difficult to get through my tour.

But I could indulge and become as intoxicated as I wanted from their decadent triple chocolate brownie and the police would have nothing on me.

Their fudgy brownie comes studded with crystals of sea salt and chocolate chips. There’s texture on every corner from the slightly crisp exterior to the warm gooey center and the crunchy additions. It’s dangerously addicting and drunkenly sinful.

Forget Salt and Fat or Meat and Potatoes, Butter & Scotch focuses on the winning combination of alcohol and sugar. And it’ll take you to another world, no matter which one you choose. Price: $3
