DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Deviled Eggs at SIDNEY’S FIVE

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

I have no doubt if I still regularly hung out in the East Village every night, I would be at Sidney’s Five very often for their happy hour specials. Certainly more than five times as the name implies.

Since I am only here now on certain afternoons, I strolled over for brunch and took advantage of their exciting and eclectic menu.

I also might have ordered a cocktail, but again, it was during the day and it wasn’t that kind of day for me. But I enjoyed looking over their creative cocktail menu and dreamed about what I might have ordered in the old days (the basil and smoked mozzarella gin cocktail or the chili infused mezcal drink with charred corn??)

The vibe was very laid back on a Saturday afternoon and I did not feel out of place dining alone (I never do, to be honest).

To pair with their well-publicized andouille sausage corn dog, I ordered a plate of deviled eggs and they were really delicious. The only thing better would have been a cocktail.

I really enjoyed the refreshing Asian twist on these Southern comfort delicacies. Hints of soy sauce elevated the creamy yolks and firm whites and paired beautifully with a delicate kiss of chives and a garnish of wasabi tobiko roe.

The only problem was there were just two quick halves. Oh, that and the fact I still didn’t have a cocktail. How I miss the old days!! Price: $8
