The Place: Despite all the hype-machines and Tik Tok fueled lines, certain international cuisines in NYC are actually getting stronger and more diverse. That is certainly true of fast-casual regional Mexican food. Los Burritos Juárez opened last summer in a small storefront in Fort Greene, Brooklyn to long lines and lots of hype. And I’m pleased to stay months later after the hype has cooled, I found the food to speak for itself.

The Dish: These burritos hail from the Juarez region of Mexico so they’re comprised of a homemade flour tortilla, cooked with lard. They’re smaller and thinner than what you may expect and I really appreciated that since I am past my prime days of devouring an entire Tex-Mex meal. Although it was smaller, my Colorado Burrito was packed to the brim with stewed pork and beans in a guajillo sauce. There was no cheese, but the rich tortilla glistened with lard and melted with the meat like a delicious cheesy mess. Price: $11
