The Place: Food halls have come and gone in the city, but below the streets of Columbus Circle, Turnstyle Market is still turning out a few good lunch options. It’s been a while since I’ve found anything down here worth descending for, but the falafel I recently tried from Falafel Plant really surprised me. Might be worth re-routing to the A, B, C or D train.
The Dish: This seemed to be the most popular stall and if my side of Falafel pucks were any indication of the care they take in creating their sandwiches and bowls, I understand why everybody comes here for lunch. The falafel were consistently crunchy with a nice creamy green herbal quality inside each bite. The six falafel with a rich nutty tahini sauce were going to be a small snack for me but they turned into a full lunch. Pita sandwiches are available of course, but this hit the spot with nothing else to mess with the falafel themselves. Who knew some of the best in the city was underneath the streets?
