DISH OF THE WEEK in New York: Djablo Hot Sauce

It’s been a while since I wrote about a product made in New York but used for home cooking rather than created at a restaurant. I discovered one of these wonderful locally made food provisions at Stand Alone Cheese in Jackson Heights, which is a great local cheese shop in the midst of the most diverse community in NYC. It’s a natural fit for them to be showcasing Djablo Hot Sauce, which is a Filipino female-owned business that produces their hot sauce in Queens. There are a few varieties, but the Smoked sauce with a fair amount of ginger, vinegar, and smoked chili peppers was probably my favorite for its tangy, bold flavor. Adds a unique Filipino-twist to just about anything. Price: $9.99
