DISH OF THE WEEK: Granola from BUMBLE & BUTTER

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

I can’t resist a new locally made food product. Especially when it is some crazy combination of flavors.

The innovation of the granola I recently bought at my favorite cheese shop, Stinky Brooklyn, reminded me of something I tried in this neighborhood a number of years ago. I’m not sure the crazy cheese caramels are available any longer, but I discovered something just as weird. And just as good.

Bumble & Butter has been making granola in Brooklyn for a little while but I only recently noticed their packaging on the shelf at Stinky.

I started with their unusual granola combination of Aged Cheddar with Black Pepper. I had no idea what to make of this. But once I let go of all my pre-conceived notions about granola, I fell in love.

I actually could see this working as a first morning meal with some fruity yogurt. But it also works perfectly on its own as a cheesy crunchy slightly sweet snack. It’s sweetened with honey and brown sugar and crisped up with the addition of ghee. The clarified butter gives it a unique rich creamy finish.

After finishing the bag, I felt compelled to try a second flavor. The Rosemary and Currants bag stuck closer to the breakfasty expectation but the savory herbal notes from the rosemary gave it a very pleasant surprise.

I have not seen the Vanilla Bean and Sour Cherry flavor at the store but it looks to be available online. I’m so addicted, I might just do that right now. Price Varies.
