BRIAN’S 100 BEST ’19: MILLET MOCHI DONUT at WIN SON BAKERY

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2019…

There’s nothing like a freshly fried hot donut. Now when you put a unique spin on it by making the dough out of gluten less mochi (rice cake), it gets even better. I’ve had this type of donut before but never as special as at the new Win Son Bakery in Williamsburg. The crisp hot exterior gives way to a soft hot chewy interior. The texture contrasts are sensational. And surprisingly, the addition of black sesame and millet give this a savory and cereal flavor that makes this puppy feel positively healthy. Let’s pretend it is. Price: $4
