La Esquina has been around for years. Sadly I no longer think of them as the best tacos in the city – mostly because other places have come more recently to take the crown. But this year I finally tried their hongos (mushroom) taco and they have been at the forefront of my mind ever since. The maitakes are charred to a crisp providing a meaty earthiness you expect with crunch from pepitas, creaminess from queso fresco, and even more dark richness from a delicious corn mole.
