DISH OF THE WEEK: Crispy Rice Salad at DUDLEY’S

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

When I stopped by Dudley’s to grab a quick healthy bite, I didn’t think I’d be writing about it on my blog. In fact, I ended up getting the food to take away because it would have been a much longer process if I sat in. So I was really wanting something quick, simple, and on-the-go.

I was intrigued by the Crispy Rice Salad and when I got it in my to-go container, I almost didn’t even take a photo of it because I didn’t think it would be anything to write home (or a blog post) about. Oh, how wrong I was!

So there’s the photo I almost didn’t take. You can see it looks good, but nothing that seems overly impressive. It’s like every other all-day café that serves eggs on a bowl of rice and veggies.

Except this was crispy rice and it was really great. Texture was a big part of this dish thanks to deep-fried rice that crackled like a certain breakfast cereal. It was kissed with a hint of sweetness reminiscent of Thai food and tossed with cucumbers, tomatoes, and a hint of lime.

The egg gave the whole thing some protein and broke up the decadent texture. Yet despite the crunchiness of the rice, it was a surprisingly light and greaseless dish. It worked both as a healthy option and somewhat of a gulty pleasure.

It was exactly what I was looking for yet was much more than I expected.  Price: $13
