DISH OF THE WEEK in New York: Sun Dried Daisy Cocktail at SIP & GUZZLE

The Place: The long line during the day on the corner of Cornelia Street in the Village is for Arcane Estate, which was recently voted one of the best coffee shops in the world. Then when the evening approaches, another line forms a few doors down in front of Sip & Guzzle, which was recently voted the best bar in North America. Everybody wants to try someone else’s opinion of “the best of whatever.” And I guess I’m guilty of that desire as well, but I put my foot down at a long line. Thankfully when I did get to visit Guzzle (the more casual upstairs half of Sip & Guzzle), there was no line due to a rainy NYC evening.

I got a solo corner table and felt a part of something exciting. While Guzzle focuses on a more casual approach than Sip, it still felt like a bustling night out in a swanky Greenwich Village cocktail bar.

The Dish: I mostly wanted to try some of the food here and the 30-layer pork stick surrounded by koji cotton candy was pretty breathtaking. The sticky sweet crunchy pork melted almost as fast as the funky edible cotton surrounding it.

But since this is a cocktail bar first and foremost, I felt compelled to order a drink and the Sun Dried Daisy Cocktail did not disappoint. This unique play on a margarita had a base of sun-dried tomato tequila. After a smooth kick of acidity, the cocktail settled into a tropical salty spice. It was very complex with makrut lime leaf, salty saline, and some tingle from green peppercorn oil. This unique riff on a classic is just one of the reasons people wait in line all day and all night. I’m glad I tried this place and can definitely recommend it, but unless the lines settle down, I’m not sure I’m going to be paying Sip & Guzzle a re-visit anytime soon. – Price: $20
