THE SPOT: All these years of eating pizza in Dumbo and I completely ignored Ignazio’s. Even when the guy standing on the corner screamed at me and my tour guests that this was the best pizza in Dumbo. It’s hard when Ignazio’s is competing with the likes of Juliana’s, Grimaldi’s, and now L&B Spumoni Gardens around the corner. But one day after a tour, I finally decided to stop in. The very open dining room has lots of space and very little frills. It’s just as you might expect from a pizzeria out in the suburbs.
THE STYLE: It looks like they recently started selling slices, which is not something you can get at Grimaldi’s or Juliana’s. If you want a slice, you have to order it from the bar or a waiter. Not the usual set-up for a New York slice, but that’s ok. It’s a tad pricy at $5, but as expected for this overly-touristic neighborhood. Gas oven cooked and ultra thin, this is what many consider a quick grab and go New York slice and separates itself from the nearby coal-oven stalwarts.

THE PIZZA: It’s quite heavy on the tomato sauce with the fresh mozzarella hiding on the bottom and a sprinkling of tangy pecorino Romano. I was disappointed that there was no basil, which would have helped cut the acidic tomato sauce a bit. It was crisp and warm and proved my very low expectations wrong. It was a bit greasy and messy, but all in all, a decent enough slice if you aren’t in the neighborhood for the heavyweights.
THE RATING: 7out of 10for a pleasantly crisp and flavorful slice that is far from perfect but is a fair representation of Brooklyn pizza.
