THE PLACE: The long lines at Danny & Coop’s in the East Village have not only been because of the general food hysteria in NYC over the latest fad. It also has to do with the fact that this cheesesteak business is celebrity backed. You might not recognize Danny (Danny DiGiampietro, the owner of Angelo’s in Philadelphia) but you probably have heard of the man who goes by the name of Coop (famous actor Bradley Cooper). This is Bradley Cooper’s pet project bringing his love of his hometown favorite to his current home of NYC. The atmosphere is rather dark and bar-like for a fast food joint but that might just be because of the mass of people waiting inside and out on any given day.
THE MENU: Cheesesteaks are it. In fact there isn’t even choice of cheese or meat like at many iconic Philly joints. The only choice you’re given is if you want sweet or hot peppers. Here, you get what you get and you don’t get upset.

THE DISH: And unless you’re a vegetarian or gluten free, I can’t imagine why you’d be upset with this beauty of a Cheesesteak. The meat and cheese melded together perfectly in the exemplary crusty seeded bun. The meat is peppery and tender and full of flavor. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a Philly cheesesteak this good. To be honest, I didn’t even get one this goof on my last visit to the City of Brotherly Love. Could we finally have beat them at their own game? Price: $18
