Beer DISH OF THE WEEK

BEST NYC DISH OF THE WEEK: Tattooed Pumpkin from BRONX BREWERY

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

When Bronx Brewery first hit the scene back in 2011, they had a very smart focus. They made pale ales, all based around their base recipe. From pale ale, they created India Pale Ale, Black Pale Ale, Rye Pale Ale, Belgian Pale Ale, etc.

Since then, their mission has changed a bit and their repertoire has moved on from solely pale ales.

However, their recurring fall special harkens back to that original time in my mind. This recipe, I’m sure, is different from that original pale ale that first gained them attention. But it’s an exciting unique beer with a strong base. And, of course, it’s perfect for the season.

I cracked this open for Halloween and it gave the other beers in my fridge a fright.

Subtle aromas of baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg mingled with hops and pine. It drank like a nice blend of those malty spiced autumn beers and a west coast style IPA with balanced fruity hop bitterness.

I love beers that have levels and this one certainly did. It warmed me up and kept me elated with each sip. Bronx Brewery may be doing something slightly different, but they still got it.

Is Bronx Brewery’s Tatooed Pumpkin IPA the best beer in NY? It gets an 8 out of 10 for being all you hope for in a seasonal pumpkin beer while maintaining a balanced, grounded complexity.
