DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Grilled Chicken at THREE ROOSTERS

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

Oh man! If this was 15 years ago, I would have tried all three of the birds at Three Roosters by now. Back then I was in Hell’s Kitchen almost every day for auditions or checking out theater. But even before the pandemic, Hell’s Kitchen was no longer a regular stop on my usual path.

Unless, of course, some new restaurant opens that compels me to head out of my way. And that’s what happened with Three Roosters, a tiny Thai restaurant that specializes in chicken three ways (fried, grilled, or poached).

Since I was dining alone, I could only try one of the three roosters. Although the fried chicken gets more press, I was looking for something a bit lighter and so I chose the grilled chicken.

That also allowed me to try their amazing sweet and tangy Zabb Seasoned Fries and not feel too guilty about doubling up on fried food.

I assure you I did not miss out on flavor. The grilled chicken thighs were incredible. Moist flavorful thighs picked up even more flavor from an exotic lemongrass marinade. The plate was served with a tangy tamarind sauce which enhanced the chicken to another level. But truth is, the chicken was even perfect without the sauce.

Sticky rice soaked up all the extra flavor and added more sweetness. I also liked the brothy clear soup and the smoky cold corn salad that was included.

This was an amazing deal and somewhat of a hidden gem for those New Yorkers like me who rarely find themselves in Hell’s Kitchen. Now I need to make at least two more trips for two more roosters. Price: $13.95
