French cuisine can come across as tired. It had a heyday in the 1980’s in this city and since then it may have been overshadowed in the restaurant world by more exotic cuisines. But this year it came back with a bang! La Mercerie is one of those trendy all-day cafés, but this is high couture with a focus on French dishes nestled inside a high-end French goods and florist shop. It’s all very impressive – just like the creamy chicken crêpe which features a superb serving of tender chicken engulfed in cream, tarragon, and carrots alongside a crisp buttery buckwheat crepe. I wish all French food tasted like this. Price: $18
