ICE CREAM REVIEW: Coffee & Cream by Oddfellows

My search for the best ice cream in New York continues ….

SADLY, COFFEE & CREAM BY ODDFELLOWS IS NOW CLOSED.

I’ve always said that the most perfect ice cream flavor is coffee. To me, that bitter roasty flavor works wonders with sweet cream. I even loved coffee ice cream before I actually liked coffee. Some people take sugar and cream in their coffee, I take coffee in my sugar and cream.

So the opening of the most recent Oddfellows is basically a dream come true for me. Each location of the swiftly growing ice cream empire has a theme. The newest one is coffee and cream.

You can buy coffee, you can buy ice cream, or you can buy coffee ice cream. There are also coffee shakes and soft serve.

My favorite thing, of course, was the cold brew soft serve. It was about as smooth and creamy as coffee can get. The roasted flavors were strong and I’m sure the caffeine levels were similar. It was my second coffee consumption of the day but by far the most delicious.

I also got to try one of their flights. So like at other Oddfellows, the hard ice cream features inventive flavors that change regularly. I’ve been here three times and have only seen a few overlaps when it comes to flavors.

With my unusual tastbuds, I picked the three strangest flavors I could try. Olive oil was the best of the trio – grassy and rich. The lime tarragon was a bit too tart for me and the herbal licorice-like tarragon flavor mellowed out a little too soon. The saffron passionfruit was super interesting but I found the passionfruit jam chunks to be a bit too much.

Just like at the original Oddfellows, the flavors here were a bit hit and miss for my tastes. But the texture is intensely creamy and the ideas are well-thought out. But if you do come here, take a tip from me and from the big letters hanging everywhere – order the coffee and cream.

Is Coffee & Cream by Odfellows the best ice cream in NY? They continue to make interesting flavors, but the star of the show here is the rich roasty cold brew coffee soft serve. The shop gets an 8 out of 10,but the coffee soft serve is a can’t miss!

  1. Oooh i didn’t realize this location was open!! I love that Oddfellows always has several awesome vegan flavors and my most favoritest thing EVER is an affogato, so this is extra thrilling they have espresso too! I’ll certainly be there this weekend :))
