100 BEST ’16: MAH-ZE-DAHR BARS at MAH ZE DAHR BAKERY

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2016…

She’s a favorite of both Oprah and Tom Colicchio, but now pastry chef Umber Ahmad is going to be a favorite of all New Yorkers. She opened her first official bakery this year in thbe West Village and it’s full of fantastic goodies. My favorite was the addicting namesake bars, which is sort of like an oatmeal cookie bar on crack – with pecans, chocolate chips, baked together with an unstoppable brown butter salted caramel sauce. It’s soft, rich, and impossible to stop eating. Price: $3.50
