DISH OF THE WEEK: Breakfast Sandwich at COURT STREET GROCERS

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

Breakfast sandwiches were one of the hottest dishes a few years ago. Every restaurant was doing them (as long as they were open for breakfast, of course). But now we’re so immersed in Instagram-friendly food that the simple breakfast sandwich has gotten a little less attention.

But there is something so simple and satisfying about the iconic New York breakfast sandwich. Court Street Grocers are kings when it comes to sandwiches and their breakfast sandwich was in the spotlight a few years ago. After revisiting it, I’m eager to put it back on a pedestal.

Breakfast Sandwich at COURT STREET GROCERS

The secret here is the top-quality ingredients starting with the Balthazar ciabatta bun that is chewy and fresh and then continuing with soft scrambled eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, and a peppery bit of arugula. And I imagine the schmear of butter on the bread only helps make this an excellent, yet decadent way to start the day.

If only I got up earlier in the mornings, I’d spend some time searching for the best breakfast sandwich in the city. But for now, I know one place to get an exceptional one. Price: $6.04
