Food Adventuring Around NYC
My search for the best beer in New York continues…. I admit that I fall for the beer can marketing. Before even reading what style beer is being sold, I am attracted to the colorful designs on the cans. I feel like one reason I buy the beer is to just have the cool artwork in …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City New York never changes. I would always discover some food place on a block I frequented often. It looked brand new and I had never seen it before but when I stopped in and asked how long …
This week we’re getting very ambitious. It’s the first time we are not making one dish, not making two dishes, but a record breaking three dishes. I had no idea what time dinner might be ready since I was juggling three distinct dishes, a three year old, and a camera on me. Talk about multi-tasking. But …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City I used to walk through Chinatown many times a week. And I knew that I wouldn’t have any trouble taking in Lunar New Year festivities. My only obstacles would be parades and the crowds. Not the case this …
One of the things I miss most about dining out in New York City is the adventures I would take to neighborhoods and communities that were very unfamiliar to me. For this at home journey, if I want to be as authentic as possible, I’m going to also have to seek out special ingredients at …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City SADLY, FAT CHOY IS NOW CLOSED. As many who read this blog know, I don’t take too long to try out a new dumpling spot. And so it was last time I was in the city. …
So I’m embarrassed to say this but Andorra is the first country we’ve reached that I had never heard of. Have you? I’ve been in the tour industry for over a decade, been eating as much international food as I can find, traveled around Europe, and yet I had no idea this little country ever …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City I’m really funny. I tend to only write ice cream reviews in the middle of winter. That’s not exactly true, but I’m one of those bold ice cream lovers that would be happy to have a …
After last week’s success (mostly thanks to Sam), we’re now really cooking (pun intended). And, in fact, this is the week that Sam really learned about a brand new dish and has since fully incorporated it into his diet. He now often eats couscous for lunch – without all the meat and spices, of …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City I’m the most annoying customer. I was excited to try some of the sandwiches at Downtowner, but I should have known when I arrived late that their selection would be limited. A few weeks earlier, I …
After a less than stellar start with Afghanistan last week (which has nothing to do with the country or its cuisine and more to do with my novice cooking skills), things are really starting to heat up with Albania, the second stop on my worldwide culinary adventure. Not only did I learn from my mistakes …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City Poor Chinatown. It has been a struggle for the vibrant neighborhood and its businesses. Well before the pandemic, developers and national chains had pushed in and while the immigrant community mostly held on, locals wondered for how long. …
I am not the first to embark on this journey and I am sure I won’t be the last in the ethers of this great wide internet thing. But the reason so many have done this is because it’s a damn good idea. I’m planning to cook a dish from every country in the world …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City As you may have seen, I have a brand new project that I must admit I am putting a good deal of my energy into. You should check it out. It has nothing to do with …
Normally as the year comes to an end, I’m putting together my list of all the best dishes I ate around the city the previous year. But as you probably know, I didn’t eat out nearly as much as I usually do, 2020 was shockingly horrendous. We all know that. On a personal level, I’ve …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City For the New Year, I am always into symbolism and tradition. I want to eat any number of the good fortune foods that other nations consume on the last day of the year – things like …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City SADLY, CROP CIRCLE IS NOW CLOSED. Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City It was shortly before Hanukkah that I stumbled into Michaeli Bakery in the Lower East Side. I had not been here before and it had been on my list since it opened. But I was taking …

Which is pretty crazy, but also hopeful that the restaurant industry will survive all this madness. One of the places that …
Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City So I’m cheating a little bit with this one. Instead of choosing a dish I ate out and about in New York City, this week I’m picking a pie that I enjoyed with my family (my immediate …
