Melt lard or butter in a large pot.

Cook onions until they are soft and light brown.

Add sugar and stir to allow it to evenly melt.

When sugar is melted, add the chopped cabbage and mix well.

Add salt and caraway seeds and stir.

Add in vinegar and mix well.

Lower heat and cover. Simmer for about 30-40 minutes.
