Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City
I think the Pumpkin Spice craze has calmed down a little bit. Hasn’t it?
We’ve moved onto craft seltzers or smashed burgers or whatever the latest food trend is. Sure, pumpkin flavored beers and sweets will always be fashionable (and hopefully seasonal), but I think the full on hysteria involving pumpkin spice cheese and pumpkin spice kale chips have become mostly a thing of the past.
That being said, I tried an amazing pumpkin related local drink that made me re-think my stance on the entire thing.
Granted, the awesome Brooklyn Farmacy stopped at dubbing their seasonal egg cream Pumpkin Spice. It’s just a simple Pumpkin Egg Cream.
If you’re not familiar with the classic New York egg cream, it’s a simple combination of milk, seltzer, and chocolate syrup.
Brooklyn Farmacy has taken the iconic drink to the next level (without going too crazy) by offering innovative versions with coffee, maple, or blueberry syrup. The pumpkin one is a continuation of that.
And it really works. The pumpkin syrup is very subtle with just a mild dose of baking spices and a hint of actual squash sweetness. There was a bit of a graham cracker thing going on. It’s balanced by the bubbly milk and goes down as easy as a seltzer.
If this is the kind of restrained pumpkin flavors we can expect in future seasonal concoctions, I’m all for it. Just not more Pumpkin Spice Doritos. Please. Price: $5
