100 BEST ’18: CURRY FISH BALL STEAM RICE ROLL at JOE’S STEAM RICE ROLL

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2018…

This year Joe’s Steam Rice Roll, a classic Flushing counter, expanded to Manhattan’s Chinatown. I’m in Manhattan all the time but I was embarrassed that I had never been to the original spot, so this year I changed it. Like many of the best Flushing food spots, Joe’s is inside an unassuming food court. When you find it, the sticky rice rolls topped with peanut sauce and sweet soy sauce makes up for any lack of ambiance. And the best part are those plump chewy curry fish balls. They are a must try and now that there is a second location, there are no more excuses. Price: $4/$6
