DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Peppermint Krinkle at BAKED

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

Every year for the second to last Dish of the Week I go searching and scouring (read: eating) at the local bakeries for some seasonal holiday-themed treat. Last week, I was lucky enough to try this jelly doughnut marshmallow for Hanukkah. And this week it was Christmas’ turn. I stumbled by the newest location of Baked and quickly realized I had never been inside.

This location of the Red Hook bakery has more of a café vibe with a bigger seating area and an entire menu of savory dishes. But who wants savory? I was here for something sweet.

Their holiday ingredients seemed to be focused on peppermint, which I quite like. But did I want the peppermint whoopie pie, the peppermint brownie, or the peppermint krinkle?

Covered in a snow-capped glaze, the peppermint krinkle was the winner. This was a soft and buttery chocolate cookie with a gooey inside and an on-point shell-like exterior.

Deep rich dark chocolate reveals itself first. But then the festive peppermint sneaks up. It never overwhelms but it’s strong enough to leave you feeling minty fresh and full of that holiday spirit. Price: $3

  1. I’ve been to Baked in tribeca many times and was also surprised by the savory options- their tomato soup is really good! But i go for the blondies, they’re closest to homemade I’ve found
