Falafel

FALAFEL REVIEW: Flé Flé Grill

That corner spot in front of a busy subway station is prime real estate for a quick and fast NYC joint. And Flé Flé Grill lucked out here when they opened in 2018.

Set up like a Mediterranean Chipotle, this is quick and cheap and on the healthier side of fast food. I hear good things about their chicken shawarma, but of course, I was here for falafel.

They get huge points for being nicely formed and fried to order. Less than $5 afforded me 5 nice sized orbs. This a huge jump in price from the old days (and other cheaper neighborhoods), but it’s still hard to complain at the hearty snack you get for this price.

Each bite was very crisp and crunchy. The texture was incredible, but the patties were on the bland side. The insides were much more yellow (I assume focusing on the garbanzo beans) than green. So, in my opinion, they were missing some fresh herbs.

They were nicely salted and were better than a side of soggy French fries. And, of course, the tangy garlicky white sauce brought a bit of life to them.

Flé Flé definitely has promise and is worth checking out – whether you are making a mad dash to or from the subway or are just walking by.

Is Flé Flé Grill the best falafel in NY? They definitely get points for being hot, fresh, and perfectly crispy. I thought they could have use a bit more herbs and flavors in the mix, but at 7out of10 out of they are not a bad option at all.
