Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City
When I asked about the eye catching sweetie pie at Oggies, the proprietor asked me if I had heard about it. I had not, but it sure made me feel like I was not “in the know.”
I did a little research later and it seems like the only major mention of it on the internet is on their Facebook page. I couldn’t find much more in the way of press (outside of Yelp reviews). But that’s ok. These are the kinds of discoveries I like to make.
Oggies opened relatively recently in the once bustling Dekalb Market Hall in downtown Brooklyn. The focus is British-style savory pasties and sweet pies. The meat filled pasties looked tempting, but I had already had lunch and was in the market for a little bite.
The exquisite Passionfruit Pineapple Meringue pie was just what I was looking for.
Resembling a charred marshmallow, the delicate meringue was a nice opener to the sweet and tart tropical filling. Notes of passionfruit and pineapple mixed with sugar and butter. The tender crust held strong, but not too strong as it allowed easy breakage to get to the gooey center.
It was the perfect size for a decadent dessert without the guilt of an entire slice of pie. So you may not have heard about it before now, but assuming my SEO is good enough, you can say you heard about it here. Price: $3.75
