DISH OF THE WEEK: Charred Lemon Skillet Mussels at LELAND EATING AND DRINKING HOUSE

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

Well here we are again! I’m writing about another dish I tried recently during a very satisfying brunch at Leland Eating and Drinking House. I wish I was actually there again right now slurping these up.

In addition to the Smoked Pollock Fritters, I also ordered this very generous portion of mussels. It had been a while since I’ve eaten mussels at a restaurant like this (making them at home doesn’t usually produce the same effect) and I only wish they were one of those bottomless mussel deals.

 

The bivalves are served overflowing in a hot skillet. Below them is a delectable lemony garlicky broth and above is the smoky tart flavor from a charred lemon and two pieces of thick grilled toast that would soon be put to good use,

The mussels themselves were plump with a briny sweet bite. Bits of garlic and broth found their way into certain shells and I easily slurped them clean.

I only wish there were more dishes to write about from Leland Eating and Drinking House, but I’m afraid those are the only two I tried. You know what that means. A second visit is in order. Price: $18
