BRIAN'S 100 Best '18 Pizza

100 BEST ’18: LOMBARDA at CAMPANIA COAL FIRED PIZZA

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2018…

My pizza reviews this year have dwindled. But not for lack of trying. I’ve eaten lots of great pizza, but my life (namely my very active two year old son) has made writing about them difficult. I wish I was able to put together a full review of this neighborhood coal fired pizza place that most New Yorkers have never heard of, but you’ll have to settle for this blurb. Campania is doing some great stuff and they’re now on my Top 100 list. I was most excited by the Lombarada, which was a well-topped pie with fresh, high-quality ingredients that gave it an admirable lightness. Prosciutto, arugula, parmesan shavings, and truffle oil were perfect with the tangy tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and well charred crust. Sorry, Campania and others. I will try to do better next year. Price: $18/$23
