Ice Cream

ICE CREAM REVIEW: Mister Dips

My search for the best ice cream in New York continues ….

New Yorkers love hidden food spots and they love rooftops and they still mostly love food trucks. Imagine what happens when those three things are combined.

Mister Dips is a secret air stream that resides on a rooftop deck at the William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg. It’s about as on trend as you can possibly get. Now if only they were serving rainbow soft serve.

Instead the food is rather simple American fast food reminiscent of many summertime meals. Here they serve fast food style burgers, crispy waffle fries, and soft serve ice cream.

I tried all three and was mostly impressed and I did my very best not to let the inspiring views sway my opinion.

In the ice cream department, Mister Dips listed some specialty cones that are dipped in perfectly shaped and colorful flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and banana-berry twist. I stuck with the Skinny Dip and kept things plain.

It maybe didn’t give me the most Instagram-worthy shot available, but I got to taste the vanilla and chocolate swirl unbridled. And I must say it was actually very good.

Often I find soft serve to taste artificial or overly plastic-like. Not this time. The dairy was of high quality and the ice cream was very creamy. It actually tasted like true chocolate and vanilla flavor and I managed to eat the entire serving – a much larger size than was necessary.

Secret rooftop? Check. Food truck? Check. Fancy hotel? Check. Williamsburg? Check. Travel-worthy ice cream? Check.

Is Mister Dips the best ice cream in NY? 8 out of 10 because the creamy flavorful soft serve actually supports all the hip components of this spot.
