DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Cake from THE CAKE PUSHER

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

This week was my birthday and so I think it was appropriate to finally eat a big piece of cake from The Cake Pusher. I had heard about this cake speakeasy a while back and finally found myself near one of their secret kiosks with enough time to find it and choose some slices of cake.

I was on my way to see some family members so it was a good excuse to buy three different flavors. An entire cake might have been excessive.

You really would never know this little stand was inside the lobby of the office building on Broadway if you didn’t work here. There is no sign outside and even when you walk in, it looks like a pretty generic office refreshment stand. But look closer and you’ll see specially packaged pieces of cake in a nearby refrigerator.

We tried the Cookies n’ Cream, the Chocolate Butterfinger, and the Push Cake (which is half Red Velvet and had Cookies n’ Cream).

Firstly, the cake layer itself had a deep chocolate flavor and was irresistibly moist. That’s a special thing in giant pieces of cake like this.

The Chocolate Butterfinger was a standout with crunchy bits of candy bar mixed into the frosting. But I think I might have even preferred the Cookies n’ Cream which took the common ice cream flavor and incorporated it into the cream cheese frosting. It was terribly addicting.

I have eaten many slices of cake around my birthday. And at this milestone year, I think I finally discovered the best one I’ve ever tasted. Cake Pusher, where have you been all my life? Price: $7.75
