BEER REVIEW: Other Half Brewing’s Hop Showers at ONE MILE HOUSE

My search for the best beer in New York continues….

ONE MILE HOUSE, 10 Delancey Street (between Bowery and Chrystie Street), Lower East Side

American craft beer drinkers go crazy for IPA’s. The old British-style is much more aggressive and bitter than anything the mass-produced guys have been brewing for decades in this country.

OTHER HALF BREWING

So it makes perfect sense that Other Half Brewing has been focusing on different versions of IPA’s. The stronger and hoppier, the better.

Found Among Founders

One Mile House, the spacious beer-serious bar in the Lower East Side, was much more crowded than the first time I visited. That time was just weeks after opening before they were firmly established as a legitimate beer destination. This time, I had arrived shortly before the Founders’ tap takeover and was able to enjoy an Other Half Hop Showers despite the descending crowd.

Smelly Showers

I could smell this beer from across the room. It was loaded with aromas of pine, pepper, and grapefruit. The showers had begun.

Other Half's Hop Showers at ONE MILE HOUSE

The beer had a beautiful hazy orange color with a stagnant creamy white head. On the mouth, the showers were intense – not just from the tropical fruit and pepper notes, but the full creamy body. There was a lot of richness here that was nice with the strong hop content.

It’d be cool to taste all of Other Half’s IPA’s side by side to really see how different hops give different qualities to the beer. And now that the brewery has officially opened its tasting room we can do just that. Hoppy (I mean, Happy) Day!

Is Other Half Brewin’g Hop Showers the best beer in NY? It’s a really bold IPA with body and flavor earning it a solid 8 out of 10.
