DISH OF THE WEEK: Watermelon + Salt + Chili Candies at PAPABUBBLE

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

SADLY, PAPABUBBLE IS NOW CLOSED.

Two years ago for Halloween, I got an unusual craving. If you’ve been following my video series for the last few years, you probably remember that I turned into a sugar-craving zombie and ravaged the candy selection at Papabubble. If you haven’t seen the video, you need to check it out below.

This year, I composed myself and was able to really taste the flavors and nuances of the Barcelona-based candy shop. I picked up a bag of my favorite flavor – watermelon, salt, and chili.

Watermelon, Salt, Chili Candies at PAPABUBBLE

These hard candies are not the usual cloyingly sweet Jolly Ranchers you might be expecting. While they do give off a fresh watermelon flavor, they soon transform into something much more surprising. Studded with chili flakes and nuggest of salt, it becomes a candy that is sweet, spicy, and salty. Something that is pleasantly both a trick and a treat.
