100 BEST ’15: CHOCOLATE BEER at MAST BROTHERS CHOCOLATE

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2015…

Chocolate Beer at MAST BROTHERS CHOCOLATE

Mast Brothers are constantly re-inventing ways to fully taste the deep, rich notes of chocolate beans. Last year, I was taken by their cold brewed chocolate (treated like coffee) and this year they debuted coffee beer. Now this isn’t a dark stout or ale with chocolate inside. Rather, it’s a non-alcoholic drink comprised of chocolate beans that are brewed in the same method as brewing beer. Except no hops, malts, or alcohols. It’s just a very rich, effervescent chocolate drink with bitter notes and a creamy head. It was fascinating and I felt pretty ballsy walking down the street sipping a beer. I just kept waiting for the cops to stop me so I could share the wonder of this drink with them too.
