PIZZA REVIEW in New York: Vito’s Slices and Ices

My search for the best pizza in New York continues….

Old school is a perfect term for Vito’s Slices and Ices. From the shadows of nearby Port Authority, this places screams nostalgia. Slices of greasy cheese pizza and colorful Italian ices. This is childhood.

Ambiance is one thing (and Vito’s has it in spades), but could we also call the food “old school”?

Perhaps, but back in the day, I was less discerning and a slice of pizza was a slice of pizza. Today, I expect more.

Vito’s pizza isn’t bad, but it could use a little more attention to live up to the charm of its surroundings.

The crust on my slice could be browner, the tomato sauce could be more flavorful, and the cheese had a slight plastic quality.

It’s a fine quick slice, but I do think the branding and ambiance of Vito’s overshadows the actual pizza. There are definitely better slices, but this will certainly do in a pinch. Especially if you’re still living in the past.

Is Vito’s Slices & Ices the best pizza in NY? This place has great branding and a very exciting, old-school ambiance. The pizza could be better but gets a 6out of 10for bringing me back to simpler pizza days.
