100 BEST ’17: MAKHAN MALAI at INDIAN ACCENT

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2017…

Dessert is not always on the agenda for me at Indian restaurants, but maybe I should be a bit more open-minded. I’ve tried a few pastries and Indian sweets, but nothing has knocked my socks off like the makhan malai at Indian Accent. This ball of heaven is a light airy saffron milk dessert and they top it with rose petals, almonds, and jaggery (sugarcane brittle) that provide a brilliant crunch. If I had known this was so good, I might have skipped all the savory stuff. Price: $15 (or part of prix-fixe)

  1. I was just there about a month ago and we didn’t even order dessert! We were in the bar section and the pulled jackfruit and bengal rice were excellent, obviously i have to go back for this.
