100 BEST ’15: PICKLED MANGOES at THE PICKLE GUYS

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2015…

Pickled Mangos at THE PICKLE GUYS

Most people come to The Pickle Guys in the Lower East Side for their sour cucumbers or maybe their pickled tomatoes. But how many realized that this old time Jewish emporium also makes pickled fruits? My favorite are the surprising pickled mangoes. Instead of a vinegary salty brine, these are packed with spices like clove and cinnamon. This gives them a surprising sweetness and spiciness to foil the acidity. You’ll never taste mangoes (or pickles) the same way again!
