Come back every Wednesday for another funny, informative video documenting my inept food adventures. On the Road has me traveling the country searching for the most iconic and local dishes.
A few weeks ago, I went with some friends up to the Hudson valley to worship a modest little vegetables that chefs and foodies go crazy for this time of year. It’s called a ramp and it’s been known to heal all wounds.
The wild onion is abundant in much of the eastern United States, but especially along the Hudson river. It looks similar to a scallion, but it has a much stronger garlicky flavor. Its season lasts from about late April to early June. If you eat out in New York City at that time, you can’t avoid it. Restaurants put it on burgers, in pastas, in cocktails, you name it.
But the season is coming to a close soon, so overindulge in ramps while you can and check out my Tastemade video of Ramp Fest, an exciting food event that celebrated the ramp in all its glory.
