#73 – BROOKLYN BOOTLEG S’MORES at BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE

For the third year in a row, I’m going to attempt to eat every single item on Time Out New York’s annual 100 Best Dishes list. In no particular order, here’s my take on their Top 100. Let the gluttony continue…

I’ve recently become smitten (I don’t want to use the word addicted) to cold brewed iced coffee. And I really owe all this to quality new coffeehouses like Blue Bottle Coffee. They came from San Francisco, to set up shop in Williamsburg (and now Chelsea and Midtown), and get unsuspected folks like me to try their sweet, smooth iced coffee and become addicted. I mean smitten with.

I’ve already sung the praises for their two styles of the cold brew (Kyoto and New Orleans), but haven’t spoken much about the baked goods they offer to pair with the coffee.

Time Out included their S’mores on the Top 100 list. We’ve all had one version of s’mores or another and it’s sort of tough to improve upon the winning combination of marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers, right? Wrong.

Here the cookie is comprised of a homemade salty, sweet cinnamon-laced graham cracker sandwiching some local chocolate ganache (from Mast Brothers) and a pillow of one very unique marshmallow. The marshmallow is made from King’s County Distillery’s Moonshine. The high-proof un-aged whiskey gives the marshmallow a sweet, strong bite that works like no other S’mores has in the past.

Damn, Blue Bottle! Coffee is one thing, but if you get me addicted to these little cookies, my doctor and I will both be knocking at your door!

Would Blue Bottle’s Brooklyn Bootleg S’mores make my Top 100 of the Year? They are mighty tasty and get a 9 out of 10 for being the most creative and delicious version of s’mores I think I’ve ever had.
