TONY's 100 Best '10

Bring Back TONY

I imagine when most people get to the top of Mount Everest, that’s it. They’ve completed their journey. Where else do you go from there? Do you attempt to climb the mountain again? I think most people will give successful climbers enough credit for doing it once.

However, I’m not most climbers. I wouldn’t be able to get to the top of Everest in the first place. But I was able to complete Time Out New York (TONY’s) list of 100 Best Dishes for 2009. Read my conclusion and my own list of great dishes of the year.

The Time Out list was released a little earlier than usual this year. It came out in October (usually comes out in December) and forced me in to a panic. Was I ready to embark on the stress, the expenses, the heartburn all over again?

After getting some nice recognition in Time Out itself last month, I promised in print that I would be embarking on their new list. So I guess this time I have no choice!

I noticed there were quite a few high end restaurants (some that might be tough to get a reservation at) on this list. I’m going to hope for some bar seats and some kind manager to allow us to share a tasting menu (to relieve the high prices). There are more brand new hot spots that I’ve read about and now finally have an excuse to try. There are less cocktails, more coffee, and not a single dish with sea urchin!

I looked at the list for a week or so before diving back in. I will chronicle my adventures starting in December (I want my own Top 100 to get a little of the spotlight first).

If Time Out can put out this list every year, then every year I can shut up and… Eat This!
