I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2017…

Dessert is not always on the agenda for me at Indian restaurants, but maybe I should be a bit more open-minded. I’ve tried a few pastries and Indian sweets, but nothing has knocked my socks off like the makhan malai at Indian Accent. This ball of heaven is a light airy saffron milk dessert and they top it with rose petals, almonds, and jaggery (sugarcane brittle) that provide a brilliant crunch. If I had known this was so good, I might have skipped all the savory stuff. Price: $15 (or part of prix-fixe)

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

A special occasion birthday dinner brought me to the new NYC location of a critically acclaimed Indian restaurant from New Delhi. It was among the inventive $75 prix fixe dinner that I discovered this week’s Dish of the Week, an Indian-New York mash-up.

Price: part of $75 prix fixe/$9 a la carte
