Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

It’s the holiday season, which means most of the local bakeries and dessert spots roll out holiday-themed specials. Thankfully we’ve moved on from the pumpkin spice everything and now you’ll see egg nog cookies, peppermint ice cream, and gingerbread cakes.

Some bakeries also give a nod to Hanukkah. One of the traditional treats for the Festival of Lights are jelly doughnuts called Sufganiyot. So you can find special homemade jam dough bombs at Dough and unique interpretations like the Honey Tahini and Halva doughnut at Taïm. But I found the most surprising of all in marshmallow form. A once in a lifetime occurence happens this year as Thanksgiving and Chanukkah fall on the same day. To celebrate both holidays at the exact same moment, I bring my friend Jonathan to explore the culinary holiday possibilities at Ess-a-Bagel.
