I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2016…

You wouldn’t expect one of Brooklyn’s best cocktail bars to have a killer brunch. But Clover Club puts as much effort into their morning meal as they do into their well-thought out libations. It’s evidenced in their Bloody Marys, their bacon tasting, and their fluffy omlette stuffed with seasonal cheeses, meats, and vegetables. Price: $11

Filipino is not always the first cuisine that comes to mind when you think brunch. But once you try this giant smoky tortang talong (eggplant omelette) with garlic rice, you’ll start to crave it all hours of the day. It will hold you over if it’s part of your first meal of the day, but it’s also available at the hip dinner service at Manila Social Club. Price: $12 (brunch)/$15 (dinner)

It doesn’t get trendier than avocado toast. It’s as simple as can be – smashed avocado maybe toasted with some lemon and chili flakes and placed on a thick piece of toast. No wonder it’s such a brunch sensation. Gotan adds a little salty feta, bright mint, and sweet cherry tomatoes for a complete midday experience. Price: $8

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

TWO HANDS BAR & RESTAURANT, 251 Church Street (between Franklin and Leonard Street), Tribeca

When you see the word cake on a brunch menu, odds are it is off-limits for those practicing a gluten-free diet. I imagine celiacs dream of pancakes every Sunday morning. Well, hallelujah, there is an option available at the trendy new brunch mecca Two Hands Bar & Restaurant.

This Australian-owned restaurant is a larger and more food-focused location of Nolita’s Two Hands, which garners long lines for its flat whites and avocado toasts. Here, the menu is much more extensive and even includes a dinner option.

One of these days I’d like to try their evening menu, but I could tell by the bright and lively interior, that brunch is the way to go here.

Smoked Trout Scramble at FRENCH LOUIE

It’s hard to wow me at brunch, but I quite enjoyed my early afternoon weekend meal at French Louie. This clean, classy French bistro served soft scrambled eggs in a bowl (a unique preparation) and they were mixed beautifully with smoked trout, some créme fraiche, and herbs. It was a simple and light brunch, but expertly prepared and truly delicious. Price: $11

Come back every Wednesday for another funny, informative video documenting my inept food adventures.

Most people go out on an egg hunt once a year – to celebrate Easter. Here in New York City, that’s something we do every single weekend. It’s called brunch. Join me on my latest search for a modest plate of eggs. I discover something much more.
