Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

While some people are ringing in the New Year’s at a house party or (God forbid) huddled with millions of people in the middle of Times Square, I like to go hopping around to some of the hottest¬†cocktail bars in the city that I have yet to visit.

You might be surprised at how many bars offer their regular menu without an overpriced prix-fixe or cover charge, Those are the ones I like to visit – where it’s business as usual.

FRANCOIS PAYARD BAKERY, 210 Murray Street (between North End Avenue and West Street), Battery Park

Years ago when my parents came to visit me, I made them walk about 30 blocks from where we had lunch to the Upper East Side to visit Francois Payard Patisserie. It was the first place I truly experienced Franch pastries and it was transformative. They’ll never let me forget that long walk, but we had to do something to make room for the calories.

I don’t need to walk as far anymore because Payard has a few bakery locations around the city now.

Come back every Wednesday for another funny, informative video documenting my inept food adventures. NYC Brewery Tour explores the growing craft brewery scene in the city and visits all the unlikely spots that are brewing fresh, delicious beer.

I have the best job in the world. Every weekend through October, the tour company I work for Urban Oyster teams up with Manhattan by Sail to give the Craft Beer Harbor Sail. People get on a sailboat and cruise around Lower Manhattan while tasting samples of New York state craft beer, like Broken Bow Brewery. And on many weekends, I am the beer guide. I tell people about the beer and make sure they have a good time. Basically¬†I get to be on a boat most weekends throughout the summer in New York City surrounded by great craft beer. And I get paid for it!! It doesn’t get better than that!

UMAMI BURGER, Hudson Eats at Brookfield Place, 2nd Floor, 225 Liberty Street (between West Street and North End Avenue), Battery Park

Turkey burgers have always been hit or miss. Even for the health conscious or those trying to avoid red meat, there’s no guarantee that when you order a turkey burger that you won’t find a dry hockey puck in its place.

In fact, Thanksgiving is the only time we really celebrate the turkey. So in its honor, I decided to see if I could find a worthwhile turkey burger. And I did – at Umami Burger.
