BEER REVIEW: Categorical Error from THREES BREWING

My search for the best beer in New York continues….
As much as I complain about the price, the cleanliness, the service, and the corporateness of Whole Foods (which might now be getting more corporate with the recent announcement that they have ben purchased by Amazon), I find myself there way too often. One good thing I will say about Whole Foods is they have a pretty good beer selection with a growing local focus.

For instance, a number of local breweries have done special exclusive beers just for the grocery store, Three Brewing in Gowanus is one such brewery and it was on the shelf at the Tribeca location where I picked up a solo can of the Categorical Error.

I was thrilled on many levels, especially because they offered it as a solo can in addition to a multi-pack.

Like the previous Threes beer I tried, Categorical Error is another hoppy pale lager. This seems to be a popular style with this brewery. And it makes sense – it’s not so far removed from a session IPA.

This one worked perfectly for me. As soon as I poured it, I took in the strong grassy and tropical fruit aromas.

It had a very light body and a dry finish making this an utterly drinkable lager. But it didn’t lack in bold bitter notes or full flavors.

I never thought I’d say this, but if they keep selling beer this good at Whole Foods, I might start visiting more often.

Is Threes Brewing’s Cateogircal Error the best beer in NY? It’s a great light, crisp hoppy lager that you could easily drink all night long. And even though you have to go to the brewery or Whole Foods to get it, it still gets a  out of 10.
