BEER REVIEW: Neither Way from THREES BREWING

My search for the best beer in New York continues….

Things have slowed down recently on this blog. I’ve been pretty consistent with my Dish of the Week every Thursday, but have not managed to write many other reviews. A few reasons for that:

I’ve been immersed in some other projects (including a video series that will be debuting soon) and I had a baby so my life has changed dramatically. It’s amazing how much more difficult it is to get things done like writing blog posts.

But through all of that, one thing has been easy. I’ve been able to drink more beer (is that the reason for this potbelly or is it the fatherhood thing?) So really, no good excuse for not posting more beer reviews.

The other week I brought a tour group to Threes Brewing and they recently opened a small shop upstairs where they sell many of their beers to go. It’s been difficult keeping up with new local breweries, especially because they have been putting out new beers in cans at lightning speed.
I liked the color of the Neither Way can (marketing is everything, isn’t it?) and enjoyed it at home a few days later. This a collaboration with Burial Beer Co. in Asheville, North Carolina and it’s really tasty.
The can lists it as a Hoppy Pale Lager. I’m not sure how different that is to what they call IPL (India Pale Lager), but no matter. The hazy peach-colored liquid had a nice drinkability. The aromas were fresh grass and tangerines and the strong bitter citrusy flavor was balanced with a hint of sweetness.

Now that so many breweries are putting beer in cans and I can take them home to enjoy (with a baby in one arm), expect to see more posts soon.

Is Threes Brewing’s Neither Way the best beer in NY? If you like hoppy but easy drinking dry beers, this is one not to miss. I thought it was utterly drinkable and so gets an  out of 10.
