DISH OF THE WEEK

DISH OF THE WEEK: Eggnog Cupcake at TWO LITTLE RED HENS

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City

SADLY, TWO LITTLE RED HENS IS NOW CLOSED.

I have already sang the praises of Two Little Red Hens’ excellent New York-style cheesecake on this blog. But the bakery is most known (and racks up huge lines) for their cupcakes. Many people claim that these are the best in the city. Magnolia who?

I mentioned the cupcakes in my cheesecake review, but never gave them the credit they deserve. Well, I was on the Upper East Side recently and noticed that they had a special holiday flavor. I’m always a sucker for those and it was actually the best cupcake I’ve ever tasted from the shop. And it’s only available during the most wonderful time of the year.

It’s an eggnog flavored cupcake and it’s great. The vanilla chiffon cake makes for a light and airy bite. Inside, there is a surprising filling of rum-spiked eggnog cream. It’s not too sweet and also offers up that eggnoggy flavor. It’s topped with more of that light cream and garnished with some nutmeg shavings.

As is the case with all of their cupcakes, it’s available in a full-size or a modest mini. If you didn’t know about the greatness of Two Little Red Hens cupcakes, consider this my holiday present to you. Price: $1.75/$4
