DISH OF THE WEEK: Chocolate Bourbon Cheesecake at EILEEN’S SPECIAL CHEESECAKE

Every week, I document another dish that impressed and satiated me during my food adventures around New York City Chocolate Bourbon Cheesecake at EILEEN'S SPECIAL CHEESECAKEI have a weakness for desserts with booze in them. But the truth is, they’re very easy to mess up with rum or bourbon overpowering the sweetness. But when balanced just right, sweet and boozy is a winning combination. My official cheesecake search has just begun, but I’ve already hit one of (if not the) best cheesecake shop in the city. Eileen Avezzano has been slinging her perfect NY-style cakes for 40 years. To keep things interesting, she makes more than just the usual plain and strawberry varieties. In fact, she has a different flavor for each year she’s been in business.

One of her more recent flavors is the Chocolate Bourbon and of course, I had to give it a try. It had the same perfect creamy, richness with an irresistible light fluffiness as her plain cake. But the flavors were even more explosive. Complex cocoa notes dance to the sound of some sweet and potent Maker’s Mark. But again, the booze doesn’t overwhelm the chocolate. It elevates it. The dark chocolate crunch and crunchies on top are the perfect capper to this decadent dessert. Check out my full review of Eileen’s Cheesecake soon and visit the shop when you’re in New York. You’ll see how NY-cheesecake is supposed to be done. And you might get a little tipsy sugar buzz in the process.
